The Campus Kitchens Project is a non-profit organization that developed in 2001 as an off-shoot of DC Central Kitchen, a national food rescue program. This student-run program operates out of Runk, where surplus food from the dining halls, local farms, and on-Grounds cafes are collected and redistributed to third-party agencies in Charlottesville. We allow the community agencies that serve the needy to reallocate funds previously used for meals to rehabilitative and empowering programs.
We encourage sustainability while also bridging the gap between UVA and the Charlottesville community. CKUVA currently delivers three times a week to three different community organizations. We hope to expand to include more food resourcing partners and donors, in addition to adding more delivery shifts to new client agencies.
