Started by a student initiative in the spring of 2009, the UVA Community Garden is a space for students, faculty, and Charlottesville community members to learn more about sustainable agriculture and local food systems. Keeping with the agricultural traditions of the University’s founder, Thomas Jefferson, the garden is a place to foster the growth of community as well as food. Throughout the growing seasons, weekly workdays are held in the garden and are open to everyone! We also host community potlucks, workshops, and field trips to inform students about growing practices, cooking with the seasons, and helping students get to know Charlottesville’s local food system.
