The Rivanna Conservation Society works to preserve the “ecological, recreational, historical, cultural and scenic resources of the Rivanna River and its tributaries” through events and activities. Events each year include the Rivanna River Sojourn (April), The Rivanna River Cleanup (September) Chemical Water Quality Monitoring, periodic events at the Scheier Natural Area (including survival training and Geocaching). Projects include buffer plantings, river paddling trips, clean-ups and educational dialogues.
RCS has a UVA Student Intern program and is always looking for young people who have an interest in water resources and the environment.
